Great News From Mark Williams!, Part 3

Another update on the news posted previously this week. Andreas asked Mark how long he expected this project to be. This was his response;

Well, judging by what I have so far, we’re looking at two Modes per page. Doing a little math here:

There are 9 Modes in 5th edition (some of the Modes from 4th were combined into one.) There are 15 Orders (counting Elementalism as four different Orders.) Whew. But on the other hand, most Orders have some Modes that are unavailable, and I won’t be showing Modes for which the Order has a
penalty (so Cryptomancy will not have Transmutation, Illusion, or Influence spells.)

So that makes it approximately 110 Modes to be described, with three or four spells per mode. I’ll be cheating on that, since a lot of the “Advanced Magic” spells will simply be Basic spells with their Degree of Difficulty reduced to Spell Level.

So, 55 pages of spells, plus maybe a dozen pages of rules clarifications (researching magic spells, teaching them to others, learning from scrolls/tomes, and a brief recap on Sorcery rules) should bring the total to around 70 pages. Since I’m doing this in my spare time while taking care of a 3-year old, preparing for a new baby coming soon, and various other responsibilities, I wouldn’t expect this to be finished over a long weekend. :-)

And another quote worth mentioning;

My goal here is to make the 4th/5th edition magic system easier for beginning players to grasp, pick up and play.
